Canon has just announced its new movie camera, the EOS C500 Mark II, with 5.9K full frame sensor, 60 fps recording and electronic image stabilization. It is the first Canon camera that allows users to mount lenses themselves.
The Canon EOS C500 Mark II gives a considerable jump in resolution compared to the previous model, EOS C500, which was equipped with a Super 35mm sensor for 4K recording. At Mark II, Canon’s own full-frame sensor can record 5.9K videos in Cinema RAW Light format, guaranteed by the powerful DIGIC DV 7 processor.
One of the main advantages of the new model is the easily interchangeable lens holder. This allows anyone handling the camera to make the necessary changes for each situation by removing four screws and replacing them. It also comes with a set of shims that assist in fine tuning the rear focus.
The EOS C500 Mark II is the first EOS Cine System camera that incorporates a user exchangeable lens mount for EF with Cinema Lock and PL, offering a wide range of lens selection. It is also the first of the EOS Cine System compatible with the Electronic Image Stabilization System (Electronic IS).
Thanks to the 5.9K sensor and the newly developed DIGIC DV 7 processor, the EOS C500 Mark II uses a high quality processing algorithm when over sampling from 5.9K to 4K. This suppresses moire and reduces noise, resulting in exceptional image quality. With +15 steps latitude with ample color space, the EOS C500 Mark II is perfect for high dynamic range productions. In addition, the camera is equipped with a neutral density motorized Full Frame ND (2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 steps). Allowing for shallow depth of field imaging even during the day.
Frame Rate
The Canon EOS C500 Mark II records 60fps video at 5.9K resolution, ensuring high quality images even in slow motion. It also features a mode that works at 120 frames per second at 2K resolution, and frame switching can be done easily by accessing the camera menu.
Sales of the Canon EOS C500 Mark II begin in December, but advance ordering is now possible over the internet. It is in pre-purchase for $ 15,999.
